The goods you buy from this site will be purchased directly from Mark Two Distributors Limited.
Someone's seen an opportunity.

Not that I agree with the big ones muscling in areas where they do not belong

So who's "branding" out then? Mark Two or the big retailers??

Our business, supplying and fitting fires and fireplaces, has been decimated by the internet, preceded by B&Q et al.

However, as usual, condemnation is rather selective. Hence the thread encouraging us to buy tools from Aldi, and constant advice to punters to scour bthe internet for cheap fires.

And from where do you buy your bread, milk and meat?

Bake my own bread ;) (source the rest at the corner shop in our village, frequently use the post office and brand our company on not just price alone ;)

Glad to hear it, I beleive every one who has lost their village or corner shop nnow wish they had supported it.

Again, I agree. Unfortunately, when a customer sees some products on the net at about a fiver above our buying in price, it is difficult for them to justify using our services. Or rather, they want to use our service, but have us foit their internet sourced product.

Your name suggests that you create bespoke woodwork, or at least your "product" is timber. This is different to buying a fire, or even a boiler. But, yes, get a good rep as a tradesman, and you should be okay. Unfortunately, we have to sel products to survive with a retail outlet, hence all the big name closures.

Don't forget we also encounter those only looking for price and thinking our quality compares with B&Q/Wickes etc. Somehow we managed to carve out a niche, "sacked" clients just interested in the lowest price. Not saying it's a breeze, but we do see an increase in clients looking for better value for money than any of the "sheds" can deliver.

Tesco is like some all consuming monster, that keeps on growing. As well as the lion's share of the supermarket sector, they are now busy squeezing independents out of the convenience store business. The opening of one such shop in Bristol caused the locals to riot. Groceries are only part of their business, they have diversified into many other areas.

Some big names are now moving into boiler installs as well. Two that come to mind are Everest and EDF. If this is how things are going to go, unless you operate in a specialised or niche market, you will end up picking up the crumbs left by the big boys.

Of course they belong - this is little britain with it`s free market economy

That's because only boring shops can afford the ridiculous high rents there. Go to villages where loads of independent shops etc are located - or special designed centres in villages or near towns.
Artisan and independent businesses are on the rise, town centres are being deserted - even by shoppers.
