Hi,
Im totally new to DIY and am looking for some advice. Having recently bought a house I've noticed a large crack appear on a inside wall in my lounge. A builder has told me the plaster has blown and quoted more than I can pay to fix it so I thought I'd do it myself. I'm just wondering if it's as simple as I think. Do I just need to take the plaster that has blown off the wall, I was thinking about going 5cm either side of it and then replaster. Will this stop the crack or will it keep returning?

If you look below your post to another post: "crack below window on extention" you will find a similar problem and possible solution. There are similar posts at the bottom of the page.

However, you dont post a pic of the crack with some of the plaster hacked away to give a clear view - a pic of the outside wall would also help. Perhaps you will post pics?

Blown plaster all has to come off, & what starts out as a 150mm wide strip can quickly become a large patch(s) - but it must come off.

How come the mortgage survey report didn't pick the crack up?
