what are the symptoms of a blown turbo? are there any signs of impending failure prior to it going?

Car is Jaguar X-type 2005 estate, maybe not a turbo problem then as does not appear down on power, just completed a 500 mile round trip and averaged 48mpg and not really smoky. Maybe get someone to take a look to see what the "wheeze" I can now hear is.
