I'm kinda stuffed then! Don't have room for a soakaway either. it's two metres from the house is it not? I also have heavy clay ground. Does this make things awkward?

yes. although theres hundreds of council blocks that never really took it that seriously from what ive seen.

Only time will tell...

500mm is all that's required, clay doesn't matter, just make bigger hole and suround with rubble and limestone chippings mixed.

Generally, a cast iron soil stack will be OK providing the part of it you intend using is regularly flushed by bath, shower, WC water etc. If it is not, then significant corrosion will occur.

Cast iron is pretty impervious to weak acid anyway.

As Simon says its OK if its a washed part. Even not then there may be a way to feed a hose through the c.i. pipe so the actual output discharge point is within the washed part.
