Boiler cutting (overheating flue?)

I'm an expat in the Netherlands but this is hopefully a general question as I'm sick of tired of hitting the reset button! We've had loads of people out to look at our boiler which is in the basement. The thing works, the radiators and water gets hot but every so often the flue appears to overheat and the boiler cuts out. There is a small reset button underneath the flue exit from the boiler and we can reset this and the boiler will fire again.

We've had our maintenance people out about five times now - they have fitted a cap on the flue on the roof (as I had an idea that wind direction might be causing an issue), they have also now fitted an expansion tank which was missing from this old (closed) system. Neither have made an improvement - in fact it's a bit worse if anything. Another guy came around the other day and didn't have a clue either.

It doesn't _always_ happen but it happens enough to be incredibly annoying and usually when it does happen it happens five or six times on the trot. When you're bathing the kids and the water goes off it's two flights of stairs down!

There is a bend in the flue coming out of the boiler and going to the pipe that goes up to the roof. The roof is four stories up so the gas has got a long way to go. I'm wondering if the bend in the flue or something else is causing it to overheat? I can upload a photo of the flue if that's over any use. My instinct is it's this bend and either making the bend less severe or moving the boiler closer to the flue and doing the same may sort it. Many thanks for any advice you can offer!
