Hi all

Parents have a vaillant ecotec 837 and sound like pump is going. When I went over I realised they have no dirt collector on the return pipe.

Boiler is fitted in the kitchen, with pipework going down and boxed in.

Is there any type of filter that is fairly compact and can fit underneath?

Thanks

In a couple of situations where it would have been impossible or difficult to fit anything else, I have fitted a Fernox Boiler Buddy. They're not the best filter system on the market, but after removing and cleaning those that I installed, I found they collected quite a lot of rust particles.

They fit inline with the return pipe as close to boiler as possible, between a couple of pump valves that you will also need to install.

Perfect, this is something that will work, and shouldnt be too hard to install

I was looking at mine, and I have a spirotap mb3. If this can be fitted, are these any better?

The MB3 claims to trap non-magnetic debris as well as magnetite. In theory, it should be better, although you will find that most debris seems to be rust flakes and particles.

I have only fitted a few of the older Spiros without the external magnets. They didn't trap a lot, but with the magnets, they should be better. My brother has a BB fitted, and when I clean it yearly/ every 18 months, there is a lot of rust on the magnetic fins inside.

At the end of the day, nothing beats a Magnaclean for removal of debris, but if space is limited, a lesser filter is better than nothing.

I fitted an MB3 to protect my new boiler and it caught a bit of stuff even though my system would be considered quite clean. I like the all brass construction too.

Got a boiler buddy the other day, alot bigger then I thought.

May have to build the out a little to accomodate it. Will get it fitted soon, and will do it at the same time as changing pump out and a drain
