If the boilers firing then its indicating that there is some circulation taking place, as you have a flow switch which will stop the boiler firing if their is none.

Do the pipes above the boiler get hot?
How hot?
Both or just the one?
Does the heat make it up to the pump? Is the pump hot?
Are there any airvents in the airing cupboard that need bleeding?

Finally when the engineer came around he will have probably linked out the flow switch- did the boiler then started making a banging soundfrom inside?

the pipes get hot the flow hotter than the return, the pump does get hot its a new pump,no airvents in the cupboard and no it didnt make any noises although it is a new boiler
thankyou J

if the boiler gets up to temp are you sure your pump is working or maybe even full of air

If your new boiler worked OK for the first 3 weeks, then a total blockage would be strange after that time.

But then you say that the system stopped working after the builders changed a couple of rads to towel rails.

So it would appear the same problem has affected your system twice in the last six months or so.

As more information is squeezed out it seems that there was probably little wrong with your old boiler and the new one is now suffering from the same ailment.

It is likely to be an airlock, or perhaps a sticking non return valve in the system, the presence of which is sometimes found on older part gravity conversions.

It is difficult to diagnose faults remotely but it doesn't sound like Baxi are responsible.

Does it fire up at all?

What boiler is it?

What is the pressure?

the boiler did fire up for a while, but now it doesnt at all,the make is Baxi Main/solo and the pressure i dont know.
any ideas would be great
thanks

Pump?

We have turned off the hot water and now the rads are lovely and hot,i think this is why the boiler was locking out on over heat, although still havent solved the issue, can the central heating be run constantly without hot water switched on?by the way we have an immersion for hot water

Somebody has got some pipes arse about face, if it works fine on heating only but overheats when hot water demand and gives the symptom of blocked return. Time to up the floor and trace all the flow and return connections to system.

Hi I would recommend to get the fitter back and change the flow and return pipes over as if it is a older system then it may of had a non return valve on the return and if the fitter didn't mark pipes off the old boiler he could of connected the flow to the return and the return to the flow this would give you the symptoms you have. Could be the valve over the three weeks has slowly loosened and then fully closed now no heat. Just a guess but worth a go.
