I'm not sure off the model is old though. You say it could be overheating wouldn,t it fire up again once the temperture had fallen though.

not if its tripped the overheat stat
and has to be reset.

Why would it be overheating then. Would this be air in the system.

many reasons but as said need to know the boiler model.
