Had a Grant Vortex oil boiler fitted and all seems fine apart from when I open the cold taps the boiler will fire up.

It's not heating the cold water so why does it fire up?

Thanks.

Ok so a dead leg it is, so ideally he needs to cuat the dead leg out but if not fit a non return valve on the hot water after the boiler.

Is that correct?

I've just had a look where the old cylinder was and there are 3 pipes, 2 dead and one (the cold) is capped off. Is this the one that need sorting?

Yes and probably.

If you have had a professional installer then you should not be needing to ask on here! He should know what to do without you needing to tell him.

Thanks Tony, the bloke that installed it has gone to NZ and someone else is coming tomorrow am to sort it.

I just wanted to put him in the picture that's all.

Thanks again.

Any competent boiler engineer should not need any help with diagnosing the usual faults.

OK there are a few very odd ones which can take a while. But I have only encountered four and three of them were caused by boiler design faults.

That said we regularly read on here how some faults have not been found after three or more people have visited.

Hopefully it will be sorted out tomorrow. Please post and say what it was and how it was fixed.

Well he came and had a look and sods law it didn't do it, and hasn't since.

He gave me 2 non return valves and told me to call him again if it starts again.

I increased the pressure on Thursday night to 1.5 bar when hot, will that have stopped it?
