We've recently moved house and inherited an old Kingfisher 2 boiler. It has suddenly started making a very loud intermittent roaring sound every time we run the hot water. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be, whether it's serious and roughly how much it would cost to fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are confusing you old boiler with a more modern combi boiler, your boiler heats a HW cyl and it probably wouldnt even fire up if you opened up a hot tap for a while, if it is roaring when you open a hot tap it is not the boiler but something else

Thank you. Could it be the water pump then do you think? As I said it's very loud and is intermittent. It sounds like something is trying to work but struggling!?!

your boiler heats the radiators and the HW cylinder when there is a demand, it never knows what it is trying to heat, try it on CH and see if you get the same result

Air/vapour bubbles in the system? They can make a roaring noise going through the circulator.
