Folks,

I've been in my house for 3 years now, but have never had the boiler serviced (Baxi 2 solo PF). I don't know when (or if) the previous owners had it serviced either !

I'm planning to have it looked at, just for peace of mind, can you suggest how I best find someone genuinely qualified to service this boiler & advise what a 'service' would normally entail ?

Any thoughts on approx price (we're in the south-east) ?

How about items that might really need replacing & those that almost certainly wouldn't ?

All help gratefully received ! :)

Thanks all, TP

... how much!

A service on a modern boiler is largely a matter of checking and cleaning and maybe adjusting. £40 - £100, more in central London.

Or do what BG do and poke a flue analyser at it!

tut tut, you are surely thinking of a 3 star annual safety and performance check rather that a BG service :)

I had my boiler serviced by a local well thought of firm, £40, All the guy done was hoover it out, took 10 mins max!!
I'll be doing that myself from now on - lol

The WHOLE POINT of a service is to spot things that are wrong.
I came across a classic two days ago, when I was asked to quote for a boiler replacement.

I found a tatty system that had somehow got onto a maintenance contract and had had at least two service calls, the last a couple of months back. NOTHING of importance noted on the service sheet - some b****ks about 'Not to Current Standards'.

The REALLY important faults that had not been picked up by anyone were that the boiler was on a sealed system but had NO high-limit thermostat and the system PRV was incorrectly fitted so it could not relieve any pressure! The system could easily have gone bang but no-one had spotted either problem.

I guess the moral of this tale is get the thing looked at regularly and with luck all the faults will (eventually) get noticed!
