Hi. My mate has a boiler in his garage which was installed about eighteen months ago. It is situated near the door with the flue projecting through the external wall at high level. The problem is that when you walk into his garage you get a strong smell of what I think is flue gases. It has been like that ever since he had it installed. Does anyone know what the likely cause is or what he should do about it ?

The boiler is a "sabre" (re-badged vokera ?)

Any help appreciated

Forgot to add, the boiler could be a combi although it only runs his central heating

It makes no difference if the boiler is actually a combi just used for heating.

Any suspect smells should be investigated immediately in case its dangerous.

How thats done depends on who fitted it. IF they were CORGI registered then they should be asked to come back and check it.

If not the either a CORGI should be called ( costs money ) or CORGI themselves asked to inspect ( free but two week wait ).

Thanks Agile. The fitter was corgi registered but my mate wasn't that impressed with him. First of all he quoted for a different boiler then brought and installed a different one while my mate was at work and then was supposed to be coming back to sort out a thermostat or something but never did.
I suggested to my mate that he posts on here so you know all the correct facts but I will let him know. Its useful to know that Corgi would inspect it free of charge. Im sure he can wait as its been doing it for so long.

Smell of fumes should be reported to Transco (NG) if you cannot get the installer back quickly. They will attend and make safe.

Thanks guys. He is going to get the bloke back because its due for a service anyway
