:D Hello everyone

I have just found this website. I would like some advice on my broken boiler.

The problem is when the boiler is switched on all that I get is a loud clicking sound constantly, I have looked inside the window and can see the pilot light coming on, but the jets won't light up.

I am not an expert and won't even entertain trying to find out how to fix this.. but I will have to call out a gas man.. and I know what will happen just like my car at MOT's...

So can someone give me some pointers on the worst thing it might be and(I know this is difficult) on cost ie call out, labour etc....

My son lives far to far away to help and isn't expert either so he doen't know what to ask or what might be the problem

Thank you all

What about giving us the make and model of boiler. Having said that any advice about faults would be considered diy gas advice and is not permitted. The fault does sound as if it would require a professional. Some of these faults can be easily repaired during a routine service. Without parts say £60 upwards.

It is a potterton netaheat 10/16 not sure what that means. It is to know what to listen for and hopefully to know what is being said is relevant and not exagerated that will cost... ( being taken ) I reckon you would call it....

Obviously, what is worrying is the words "new Boiler"

It's hard to diagnose without looking at the boiler but if the pilot is lighting but then not lighting the burner fully I would expect it is either not sensing the pilot is lit or there is a problem with the gas valve not fully opening.
If you are worried about being ripped off surely you must know someone that can recommend a competent and honest engineer. We're not all crooks you know. In fact I'd say the vast majority are honest.

If it's a Netaheat personally I would fix it and keep it until unrepairable. If you had any electrical work done in the house reverse polarity into the boiler will give you that fault, if not you need a pro. Might just need a service but it should be done by a Gas Safe engineer. That is a service, not a safety check.
