Honestly, I don't want you to think that I am making this up as I go along.....I have the wires exposed and I am testing accross them with needle testers and getting a steady reading for more than 5 seconds.
I'm quite sure that standard tollerance is 220-240v......so I'm not a million miles out. Also this isn't the best meter in the world and I'm testing on a plug terminal rather than in the socket.
We can assume that the ring main is the right voltage and the meter is reading within 10-20v.
I just can't figure out why the switch supply is so low though........160(odd) is a long way off 240.
Well, I've connected it all back up now anyway, gonna let it run like that for an hour or so.....or until the house catches fire......whichever comes first.
