Bora - can't open rear door from outside

The spring tension is still on the handle but doesn't open the door.

Linkage broken ?

Opens from the inside so that's why I suspect a broken link.

Have seen some videos on youtube for the door panel removal on a Jetta so just need to wait for the down pour to stop then I can do some dis-assembly of the door.

At least it opens......huge benefit!
I've never had a linkage fail on these, but have done a few locks and a couple of handles.

Had a 205 where the lock failed, had to saw the pin off to get it open.

Had similar with the old Passat we had. That had the lift up flap type door handles IIRC, and (again IIRC) it was the wire type link that had come adrift for no reason. Do VWs have a problem with door locks and window winders etc? I think I had all the door panels off more than once in that car. Otherwise an excellent motor though!

I suspect there's a cable linked from the external door handle to a lever on the the lock mechanism which has either disconnected or snapped.

I'll investigate in due course.
