Bosch HBN131550B/02 grill not working

Hi Everyone my Bosch HBN131550B/02 grill is not working; but the fan oven is when I choose it from the selector. The thermostat is working in that it varies the fan oven temp ok. I tried a replacement grill element but no joy so that part was returned. Any ideas anyone?

does the grill door have to be open? there may be a safety interlock.
