I've got an old one of these which I use infrequently but it is occasionally useful.
However it has developed a fault. It runs very slowly.
Am I correct in assuming it may be the brushes?
Or is it not worth saving?

Could be the brushes, as you say. How easy is it to get to them?
It's possible they may be jammed in the box with carbon dust and tracking across to the comm rather than having full contact.
I will never throw something away without at least trying to find the cause of the fault. As you use it infrequently then you could take your time trying to repair it during the winter nights.

Sorry, missed your reply.
I've actually since found the brushes on ebay for £3.91 so worth a punt!
