Bosch SMS4472 - new pump?

Hi

I've got a Bosch SMS4472 - had it without problems for 10 years or more. It left a lot of water in there last time it ran and if you try to run a cycle, the sort of noise you don't want comes out after the initial draining.
I've poked around and cleaned out whatever i can, and tilted it about to see if it might be something i could dislodge - but the sound suggests the pump is either blocked or faulty. Have read around on here and can't figure out how to remove the pump - seems to be a different system from some of models people have had advice on.

does anyone know whether it's worth getting the engineer out? will be £85 plus whatever the pump is. Or am i looking at a new machine?

This should be the pump in your machine http://www.espares.co.uk/parts?k=096355 To get access to the pump take the door facia off & remove the cover just under it. The noise might just be a small piece of broken glass rumbling around in the impellor housing The pump motor is twist fitted.

Right - thanks for that zipper and i also read your help on similar problems. Had a good go at it and managed to get the fascia off and the pump motor open - i can see the little black paddlewheel. no glass or anything in there sadly.
Anything else i should check before i give up and reach for the wallet?

At 10 years old your machine has done its job remarkably well. Pumps don't last forever...nothing much does these days. If it is noisy on draining the drain pump is suspect. If it is noisy on a rinse/wash cycle then the circulation pump is suspect. Check for slack on the impellor end of the drain pump while you have it out. I suppose you could try bench testing it to confirm 100%. If you want to bench test it rig up a flex with a plug on one end and 2 spade connectors on the other. Hotwire the pump, if it is noisy or seems to run a little rough then it is likely history. Be careful when doing this
If you do decide to spend money on a new pump make sure you get one that ties up with the "E" number on the inside of the door lip. It is usually laser engraved on the top of the lip and should look something similar to this...SMV6032GB/20. Good luck
