bosch wfb1602 washing machine program knob removal

i have a bosch wfb1602 washing machine, although the program knob turns, it does not change the program information in the viewing window. i think part of the knob is broken, but it will not pull off easily.

can you please tell me if the knob pulls off from the front of the machine, or is it held by a grub screw within the facia?

if i need to remove the facia, can you please give instructions?
