Boss leaking :(

I did have a post this morning about the parts of a boss strap not being compatible... sorted that today thanks to you guys here, and bought a boss strap and adaptor from toolstation along with the solvent cement. Fitted the boss by drilling a 51mm hole in the soil pipe which was initially a bit small for the ridge of the boss strap. I opened it up a bit with a file to what I thought was a snug fit. Applied the solvent cement and tightened the boss strap up... ran some water this evening and....... it’s leaking gutted... as everything I’ve replaced so at has been fine both underground and the soil stack and downstairs wastes... my gut is telling me my 51mm hole is too small and the boss isn’t dealing with the cement. Does 51mm seem a bit small? I’m hoping tomorrow it’ll pull off and I can clean everything up and try again.. I’d rather not bodge it so does anyone have any tips as to re-fitting the boss if I can, and if it won’t come off is there anything I can do without cutting my new soil stack apart... thanks in advance everyone!!

The whole point of solvent cement (and cleaning the surfaces with solvent cleaner beforehand) is to weld the plastics together...it should be impossible to disassemble the joint. Try some solvent weld filler...google it.

Tend to use 57mm holesaw for strap on boss'

Thanks for the quick replies guys... if I can get it apart are the parts recoverable? Is solvent weld filler something I can put on now with the pieces in place? Now that you’ve mentioned 57mm holesaw my gut is saying the holes not big enough and it’s not sealed properly because of it... dam..

You can remove a boss with a multitool, a file and time.
You will need a new boss though.

Thanks just pumps... in that post I get what the member Richard the third was saying about just fit it...lol.. I’ve sat here all evening fretting about will the thing come off, what to do if it doesn’t, how can I repair it without trying to take it off.... it’s driving me mad... lol.
