i have a rad about 2 years old, but gets hot at top and stays just moderate from about halfway to the bottom, any ideas please

I'd suspect a bit of deposit build up, if rads not too big, isolate valves and remove rad. Tip contents into bucket, if all black and slimey the system needs a good clean out. You might need to call a heating engineer to check over system design/install.

A radiator cool at the bottom is due to sediment blockage, but a 2 year old radiator?
I'm wondering what state the system was in when you checked it.
My radiators are hot top and bottom while the pump is circulating the water, but when the desired temp has been reached and the pumps stops I find after some minutes the bottom has cooled somewhat whilst the top also may have cooled but is hotter than the bottom.
In fact my son and I was discussing this only last week and last night I checked his lounge radiator with the same result, hotter at the top. Now he could not have a blockage, cause we removed it a week earlier for testing and cleaning.

Thats simple and quite normal, just due to the fact that heat rises. And so the hot water will be at the top of the radiator the longest.

In general radiators cool from the bottom to top.
