We have a flat roof garage joint on to the house at the front. We want to remove the old roof and replace with a pitched roof. The garage wall goes right up to the boundary so we are having to do box/concealed guttering on that side. It is single skin, but an architect has said it is fine with some wood supports attached to wall to attach box guttering to. He has drawn plans. We have had a few builders out and are waiting for some quotes. However, we are getting different responses - some say we need to do a double skin to support roof, others say steel beam, other seems fine with architect drawings.
Any experiences?

Are they all equally sound in terms of structure? Would it be better to go for double skin or is that an unnecessary expense?
