Hello. I am planning on getting a little alcove unit in the living room and will attempt to build a tall bookcase to go on top. I want it right the either side however the pipes on the right are boxed in as pictured. I would like to continue the boxing to where the fireplace wall ends so that the units will be sitting flush. How would I go about doing this do you think? Thanks in advance.

What is that currently? Is it a radius edges pipe boxing (like Talon) or square edged? Also what is the cross section?
