Brake Lights Issue

the brake lights on my 04 Transit Connect have stopped working.

Bought two new bulbs and fuses are all good.

I have located and tested the brake light switch and am receiving 12v into the switch but unsure how to check if switch is broken or not.

Any suggestions?

Are you getting 12v out of the switch when you press the pedal? If you bridge the 2 wires into the switch and the lights work, the switch is broken or out of adjustment if adjustable.

I removed the switch itself and tested the incoming voltage where I had 12v.

how do I go about bridging the wires?

As Dave says, you get 12v in on these and 12v out if the switch is good.....unplug the switch and bridge the plug contacts with a paper clip, short length of wire or whatever just to see if the lights work again.

tried bridging a cable between the terminals and still nothing.

Use a multimeter set to ohms to see if the switch is actually working. Also check for burning or blackness of the wires going to the plug, and the plug itself.

Have you cleaned the bulb contact points within the lamb clusters. That was the solution on mine.
