brake pipe material?

anyone know what the rear solid brake pipes are made of?
are they just copper?
would air conditioning pipe work?
it's made for high pressures so that's not a problem..

The replacement stuff is just copper piping. I think it is an odd size and you need a proper flaring tool and fittings to make the connections as there will be a few bar present when you press the brake pedal.
 
It can be either copper-nickel or copper and should conform to BS2871. It's usually supplied in 25Ft rolls and costs about £15ish for a roll.
The pure copper stuff is a bit more malleable and a wee bit cheaper too.
 
The best brake pipe material goes under the trade name 'Kuniffer'
it's a Cupro / Nickle alloy, which is extremely corrosion resistant, while having good mechanical propities, (fit once then forget).
