Evening guys, as usual I’ve got a question.

Currently trying to get my son’s 2005 Corsa C with 90K on the clock (so it’s not going to last more than a couple of years at best) through it’s MoT and I’m replacing the front discs and pads. When I’ve stripped it down one of the slider pins in the brake pad carrier is seized solid.

So my question is do I have to replace the brake pad carrier? Obviously in an ideal world I would however, it’s obviously been seized for a while and the old pads don’t show any sign of uneven wear. So what would be the implications of just refitting it seized?

In the meantime I’ll keep trying to free it of while waiting for some pearls of wisdom and no doubt some criticism for even thinking of refitting it.

Many thanks guys.

If it’s what I’m thinking, in the past I’ve removed the dust rubber and heated the slider area with a blowtorch and then used an impact gun on the slider pin but I suppose a socket and ratchet would do.

I thought of using a socket but the head is rectangular so I didn’t think a socket would fit snugly.

Great idea, thanks.

Check prices for a new caliper.
I got my rear ones for the A3 at less than £30 on GSF.
Sometimes you get lucky
