Hello

Just got a brand new Corsa and apparently all new cars show the road speed limit on the board.

On my new one some of them are wrong and show 20 when it’s a 30 and obviously beeps. It’s definitely not a 20 either.

Do these update or can they update?

Also the brakes squeak / screech a bit when I’m about to stop when braking. Not sure if that’s just because they’re brand new as literally done about 55miles on the car

Thank you very much for any help

it’s normally for a few hundreds yards on certain roads. But obviously annoying when it starts beeping

I thought all new cars automatically limited your speed to whatever it thinks is correct! surprised yours just beeps, or is it forcing you to drive at 20 in a 30 and it is the car behind beeping?

My Toyota has ASL, you can set it to discourage you from accelerating past the limit. The accelerator pedal pushes back at you if you try. You can press through it if you need or want to. However it does not override the cruise control. I usually keep my thumb near the cruise control button so I can cancel it or turn it down, for example if I approach road works or see congestion ahead.

It also shows the speed limit for your road, the indicator changes from green to red if you go over, but does not slow the car.

I have turned off most of the noises.

I haven't a clue about the speed sensors, but use the brakes quite heavily - i.e give them a chance to bed in, then take the car back if it doesn't quieten down real soon.
No one knows how long the car has been sitting around - if indeed this happens these days.
John :)

2024 Corsa has a speed limit warning problem. Warning sensor and light kicks in BELOW the legal limit. A new redesigned model, Vauxhall don't have a cure at present. My company has 5 new cars in garages across the country with this problem.

Taken from a Corsa web site ,go back to dealer and ask them if that statement is true

check with dealer if its true, if it is when a fix is found they we tell you to bring car in for the fix probably software update

All new cars now sold in the EU, need to have "Intelligent Speed Assist". This limits the car to the speed limit in whatever area it is travelling. Initially, it beeps at you, but if you continue to exceed the limit, it will start pushing the throttle pedal back against your foot. It can be over-ridden by pressing harder on the throttle, or indeed, disabled by the driver via a menu.

Since the UK left the EU, this is NOT a legal requirement for new cars registered in GB (although it is for those registered in Northern Ireland). The UK government has not adopted those regulations.

However, the manufacturers are building cars for the larger market, which is the EU, so new cars being registered in GB, tend to have "some" elements of the system required in the EU, because it's easier for the manufacturer to leave them in than to disable them. In general, (though there are exceptions), manufacturers are keeping the warning "beep" but not the "hard limiter" in the throttle pedal.

From a legal point of view, NONE of this is a legal requirement in GB. The legal requirement s that the driver is still responsible for staying within whatever speed limit is in force. The government keeps saying it will consult on adding the new EU requirements to the GB regulations, but hasn't taken any decision as yet.
