hi,i have a brick which over the last year is crumblind away it seems to be turning into a powder dust,if i scrape it more and more powder/brick dust falls away.
the reason why im worried is because the main roof timber i think it may be called a purlin is resting on some bricks and this dodgy looking brick is right in the middle :(

is the brick decayed and what would be best course to take?

i will try and upload a picture asap .sos thanx

Stop scraping it?

Is this inside or out?

You say a purlin is bearing above it which implies internal, but this brick should not be eroding like this if internal

If internal, you should be able to leave it. If external, it will need replacing

hi woody yeah the brick is internal under the purlin .

i think the purlin goes into the wall and has a group of bricks also under the purlin in a triangle like supporting way.its in this group of bricks which is this dodgy brick.

i live in an end terrace built approx 1900's to 1930's and its on the gable end.

should i just leave it or cut out and replace with a new brick? :D ta ta ta :D
