Strange Attack on one single Brick in my cellar!

Stop worrying about it; as Nige F said it's just an under-fired brick. No point in taking the adjacent joist out eithr just to get at it. Leave it alone; if it crumbles away completely, the house won't fall down.

Thank heavens for that, I almost started to look for that bottle of Dettol! :)

there are some  and humorous DIYers on here!

The time to worry is when you start hearing echo's

Fair play Mike for taking our stupid replies in good spirit :D

You can get this dust when there is a soft brick, and there is ever so slight expansion movement from heating/cooling or moisture and drying.

There are insects that can bore into mortar to live or pupate, but you'll be glad to know, not brick

Rather than change this brick if its bothering you, just smudge some mortar over the face of it

Well and good, but never ever mention Fairy Liquid on Heating & Plumbing Forums, you will get crucified! :)
