I have a Champion push mower with a B&S 450 series engine, 2 years old.
It is the type with a throttle control at idle - fast - max. Although the mower works fine, it has a misfire every few seconds causing a spitting sound every now and then.
Any idea how I can fix this ? are there any adjustments ?

There aren't any adjustments that would really account for this, but try running the engine without the air cleaner first, then try a new spark plug.
John :)

check the bowl of the carburettor, these are a real pain for dirt in fuel causes bad running.

It is not a mis-fire but can sound similar.

OK - the new spark plug fixed it. Starts and runs much better.
Took air cleaner off just as a test and it didn't like it - started erratic running
"hunting" so put it back quick !

That is a good sign when you removed the air filter. It would have started to run lean as the air flow wouldn't have have been as restricted as it would be with the filter in place.
