Bristan Colonial bathroom taps

I have a dripping Bristan Colonial tap, I guess its the washer, however I can't even get at the screw holding the tap on, as the little plastic cover won't budge!

When I try to ease it with the point of a blade, little bits of it chip off, and it just won't budge.

Any advice much appreciated.

Its not got the knurled edge round top, that unscrews, has it?

Hi Burnerman - no, the top is fairly plain and flat, with the white plastic "HOT" cap on it....

Hi Kevplumb - I've tried that, but it just chips the edge - there is less than a millimetre of the edge actually visible...! Arrrrgh!

Looks like you're going to have to bite the bullet and go for it....maybe Bristan will send you new tops free?
