I went to Boulogne yesterday. We had a cracking day and marveled at the quality variety, and price of the food on the local street market, but felt angry about rip-off bad quality Britain. All really fresh. The fish stall would knock any of our supermarket's into a cocked hat. None of that post frozen crap that look's like it's been run over by a few car's. The vegetables were all premium quality, none of that second best cheap stuff you get in British markets. We used a car park in the centre of town and that only cost £2.50 for around 4 hrs. We also went to Nausicaa and the car park was free on the promenade whether you went to Nausicaa or not. We never saw anyone with a Croydon facelift or a shell suit all day and never felt any aggression that you often get in the local towns here. Anyway the fridge is cram -packed with stinky cheese and french lager all bought for next to naw't I feel we deserve better.

Plenty of really good quality food stuff in this country. You just have to pick where you shop. If you think cheap french lager is the bee's knees of beer then that sums it up really.

If you want to live in France then nothing really stopping you. If you want to live here and bring back a boot load of French lager then there's nothing really stopping you. You can thank the EU for that........

Of course there is load's of great food in England I get loads of great local grub, a local fisherman brings me fresh caught bass, place cod scallops another neighbour brings fresh shrimp and duck eggs, I've had local wild boar and venison I hand net, sea fish, keep my own chucks and smoke my own fish but the point is the food on the french markets is just the normal fare. If you want to get the same quality you have to go the specialist shops or pay a fortune for it because it is not readily available in the supermarket. And I don't think French lager is the bees knees, but it is acceptable and very cheap - why should you pay a lot. I am also enjoying some Normandy cidre which is more than acceptable and cost less than £1 for a large bottle.

Grass is always greener...........

They just voted in another socialist, stuck in a currency union with Germany, public sector even more out of control than ours.

We might be stuffed but no where near as bad as the French.

Wonderful culture and a great place to go on hols, just take care when you buy your Eurostar tickets as they are prone to riot and go on strike at the drop of a hat. Any bets on the Sixth Republic any time soon?

And you should fill your boot with decent wine and not cheap lager, you save a lot more money that way. Daft to overload your car boot with lager when you are only saving pennies on a bottle over what it costs at Asda.
