British Gas EMT2 heating controller not functioning properly

Hi all,

My heating has failed, the controller, a Scottish Gas branded EMT2 timer controller will not fully power up. When switching on, either manually or timer operated, the red LED power light comes on fully for about a second before dimming right down to a faint glow, the heating does not fire up at all, nor does the boiler, although this appears to still be working and providing hot water as long as I switch it on at the immersor switch on the wall.

Any ideas, is it an electrical or fuse type issue ?
