An older installation has an old connection box inside the house with 1 incoming common cable, from B.T.'s outside pole. There are then 2 separate cables from this connection box, 1 is to an old, extension plate for broadband and another adjacent, old extension plate for the telephone. There is no single cable and no single master socket, that I am normally accustomed to. How is this arrangement different from a combined broadband/telephone cable? When I plug in a test telephone to the telephone plate, there is a normal telephone service, but I get a broadband signal noise on the other plate, how is this accomplished? If I disconnect the broadband connection, will I loose the service?, i.e. does BT have a monitor on the broadband line to detect disconnection?
