I have just been quoted by my builder (who is doing insurance work on my property) £2750 to "supply and fit new boiler and alter pipe work, flush out old cistern and fix new shower mixer". The boiler he has quoted for is Broag combi 950.

Basically the old Worcester-Bosch corner mounted boiler is being removed and the outlet hole with be used for cooker extractor. The new boiler is to be fitted in the opposite corner (from left side of window to right) and wall mounted to be hidden in a wall unit.

Does this sound a reasonable quote? I nearly choked on my tea when I got the SMS from him! Also, I know nothing about Broag boilers... are they good? He didn't ask what I wanted, just quoted for this one, so I have no idea what the decision was based on.

The property is in Harrow.

Thanks Sarah

They are quite good but must be fitted on a very clean system by a CORGI registered person.

Builders dont usually use CORGI people.

last one I saw was registered but a Keywee and went home the day after fitting the new boiler. It was a sealed system with no expansion tank and was not notified to CORGI !

Broag-Remeha are one of our chosen brands for installations.

I am not aware of a 950 current model, are you referring to an Avanta 35C or 39C perhaps?

Asking whether prices are competitive is really hopeless on a forum, we can't see your place from here and that is the crux of the job.

None of us would ever bother visiting customer pads for quotes (for nothing  ) if we could just give a viable quote from home on the internet.

Get a comparative quote from another reputable tradesman who has seen the job, meet the builder's installer and then make your mind up.

The other way of course is to punt round the figure you have in mind until you find someone who's willing to do it.
