Broken Gas Meter Box

The Gas Meter box on our house is broken
The Door is Hanging off the front
I think its a MK1 with a Horizontal Door at the Bottom
Can this be replaced by a MK2 unit
if i have to replace the Metal Back plate thats bolted to the Wall
Is it something i can do or do i need professional assistance

John, most of those kind of changes will involve moving the gas meter.

You would need a gas reg engineer to do that.

If it's like the one in the link, then it can be replaced by a diyer quite easily.
Press down on the base from inside and pull the base forward and lift off the whole box from the backplate. Fit in reverse order.

Or even undo the 2 screws underneath if someone has bothered to put them in
