Building a waist / chest height internal wall

Hi,

I currently have a non retaining stud wall separating the kitchen and dining room. I want to pull the wall down and then create a waist or chest height wall as a back for the kitchen cabinets and to add sockets into. It will be able to fix to the concrete floor and to one brick wall and will be approx 2m in length. I cannot simply cut down the existing as it is moving 10cm as well.

What is the thinnest wall that you would recommend and given the limited anchor points would it be better to build out of block or stud?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Either or. If using timber, 3x2 cls, 12mm ply the cupboard side, 12.5mm plasterboard the room side, will make it rigid, be sure to fix down to the floor and fixing the back of the cabinets to it will also hold it in place.
You might just be able to cut down and reuse the timber from the existing wall, wood doesn't grow on trees you know!
Are you using a breakfast bar (double sided worktop) to go over the top of the wall?

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't planning on a breakfast bar since we have the dining room next door and it's not that big. I think I'll go with the stud wall, my bricklaying skills are garden wall quality only!

With the ply, is it ok to tile straight on to it? Presumably it is safer to use marine ply but do I need to seal it with something first?
