Hello,

Having a small kitchen extended in the near future.

I am going to carry out the electrical work myself but I understand

the building dep needs to be informed prior to the installation

being started. Does anyone know the costs involved regarding the

building dep having to inspect & certify the installation.

Thanks.

Anywhere from £60 to £150, my local building control is £75 + vat, and they want you to give them an EIC, which I'm lead to believe they shouldn't insisit on (they should test it themselves to satisfy themselves its safe, rather than getting you to sign that its to BS7671, and them going, "BS7671, yeah safe" and fileing your cert.) Some building controls actually do things the proper way, but I think they are in the minority, by far the best advice I can give you would be to call/email them and ask them, post back here with what they say, and then we can tell you whether they are going about things the wrong way or not, and what you have a right to kick up a fuss about (if you so wish)
