Building dust damage to fan

As an ongoing improvement project, I'm from time to time carrying out building alterations/improvements.

However my next door nieghbour has informed me that each time any dust is made, her boiler conks out. She then has to have the fan replaced because masonary dust has damaged the bearings and stopped it working.
She tells me this has happened five times over recent years, and it's all my fault.

I don't recall any of the utility companies regularly receiving claims for boiler repairs every time the dig the road up. Or is this a regular occurrence, and something I've just not heard of?

That sounds very odd to be because on the first occurance she would have been expected to come running to you to get you to pay for the bill.

Certainly a lot of dust can cause fans to get clogged up. A diligent engineer can usually clean them out but a lazy one will just replace it knowing someone else is going to be paying for that.

I just cannot believe that someone will have paid about £1000 to have five fans replaced without speaking to you or taking you to court earlier.

It all depends on the type of dust and the relative positions of the boiler flue and the source of the dust.

Lighter dust like saw dust is often the worst as it stays suspended in the air more easily.
