Hopefully this is my first post of many having had an offer accepted on a "project" house
The house that has obvious damp in the ground floor (very springy floorboards and musty smell). What type of suvey do I need to get to make sure I understand the full extent of the problem?
Will a building survey give me the necessary detail - is it damp, wet/dry rot etc??
I assume that a damp survey will automatically tell me to strip plaster, chemically treat etc etc as that's where they make their money?

The mortgage company are also carrying out their own valuation survey.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

A ''proper' building surveyor will be able to comment on damp issues and give solutions.

A crap one will say "obtain survey from specialist damp treatment company"

A fully independent specialist damp surveyor (if you can find one) should give an impartial report

A surveyor (aka sales rep) from a damp treatment company will for some odd reason, tend to find dampness and quote for their own treatment too

If you want specialist dampness advice as part of a full building survey, be sure to state this when you instruct the surveyor - ie ask if he will comment on dampness or fob you off to other "specialists". If you want a partial survey for just the damp, then state this instead
