I get a lot of jobs where tenants complain about their bulbs always blowing.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Help!

Supply voltage, cheap lamps, lamp unable to disperse heat, vibration to name a few.

Poor contacts in the roses, switches or bulbholders

Insufficient use of CFLs

Energy Savers (Compact Fluorescent Lamps)

-touching halogens with bear hand when installing
-using halogens in general
-excess voltage drop on low voltage halogens (yes under voltage on halogens also kills em)

Yes, bears tend to be clumsy

Especially those that polar iced.

But seriously touching bulbs with BARE hands and leaving even the slightest trace of skin oil or sweat will shorten the life considerably. The deposit seeds a change in the glass when it is hot leading to microscopic cracks which allow the halogen gas to escape.

Also properties close by to sub stations can suffer from spikes etc.

CFLs really are much more tolerant of voltage fluctuations (as well as lasting longer and using less electricity)
