Buried armoured cable in garden. What could it be?

I have found a buried armoured cable in the garden. I was digging a hole for a new fence pole when I came across it. There’s nothing near by as far as I can see that it could be feeding.

Can you tell which way it's running? Have you dug any more holes, or have any more to dig? Just thinking that if you assume a straight linewhere would it run?

There’s a telegraph pole about 30 feet away but I don’t think it’s anything to do with that.

Should be easy to see if there's anything running down the pole into the ground.

It’s only about a foot below the ground and is about an inch in diameter. Any suggestions?

That's bigger than any cable someone would install to supply their shed, or whatever

If your property is to the right of that fence then I don't see there is a problem.

So let's rewind....

Whether it is, or is not on your property, is it a problem, and if so, why?

If it was a mains cable I might be more concerned. I did strike it with my spade when I was digging. I initially thought I was striking tree roots. If as more likely now it’s a telephone associated cable then I’m less worried about it. I’m going to put two fence posts in the area of the cable. I’m extending two fences that will meet to the left of the cable. Unfortunately I need to put another post in to the right of the cable. Two fence posts with a foot gap between them. It shouldn’t be an issue now.

That looks like a BT multipair cable, the type that will go to a Telephone pole (distribution post) and feed it, it’s armoured and has a clearish outer casing
