Burnham to remove VAT from household electricity bills that seems great!

So why not a cut in VAT on gas and heating oil as well?
Good question, since I'm sure they would have loved to. One has to presume that they think that they can 'fund' it, at least for 6 months, for just electricity but the same would not (yet) be true for all three types of fuel.
This is just a headline grabbing move ....
That's one way of looking at it, but it's not necessarily fair to be so pejorative by implication - since any change that befits people, even if only slightly, will inevitably 'grab headlines'.
... and they will get it back another way!
They are going to have to get a lot 'back' in one way or another fairly soon if they are to achieve even a fraction of what they would like to achieve (and 'the people' would like them to achieve).

I have never understood why the Labour party were so seemingly daft when coming up with their manifesto for the last general election. By then, we had all known for a long time that that they were inevitably going to win the election, even if they sad/did virtually nothing to attract voters - yet they came up with these crazy (in my opinion!) promises not to raise most taxes, when raising taxes (or even more borrowing, of which they were already being critical) was going to be the only way of 'improving things' in the short- and medium-term (the only real alternative being 'growth', on which they majored - but that would take very many years to have much effect).
