I've always got sound advice from knowledgeable people on here so I wanted to ask people's opinion on my quandary...
I'm just starting work on my lounge and I have a chimney - great but it currently contains a pretty ugly gas fire. Both myself and wife would like to replace it with an 'in-wall' frame-less ribbon burner. The reality is however due to central heating it will only be used rarely and more for effect than heating. I've started looking at the process which includes the following:
1.Disconnecting old fire = will be a fee if there is no isolation tap
2. Checking chimney = will be a fee
3. Might be worth skipping step '2' and just installing a lining to be sure = £200
4. Build new fire aperture = 2/3 days work depending on scope
5. Run mains to new fire and include isolation switch or fused spur as they are electric start = £150
6. New fire (CVO type thing) £800-£1200
7. Install and set-up new fire = 2 days
8. Make good surround
When I total the above up in it probably equates to £2000-£2500 is this a normal amount of money for this work? I could do most of this myself apart from the Gas element however I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle... This is where I need an opinion or two! For resale are people bothered about gas fires? Do people on here love theirs and use them lots? What other options do I have?
Thanks in advance...
