Can anyone offer any suggestions why this would happen & if there's anything I can do to prevent it happening again?
I've ordered a replacement but don't want to fit it if that's going to go the same way.
It's the on/off switch from a Tricity Bendix dh101 dishwasher.
Many thanks in advance.

Dont leave it on standby always switch off at the wall

Ensure the spade connectors are crimped on correctly and tight, also the male and female ends make a very good electrical contact and are not a little loose.

Either of these will cause a high resistance joint which will get hot and over time cause that.
