Cabinet drawer handle gone.

As you can see the handle has gone. I can't find it, I'm going to have to replace it but should I screw a new handle in or use wood glue? I've done a photo from above to show the thickness of the front of the drawer (well over 2cm).

How old are those drawers ? You might struggle to find an exact replacement

The handles look like they were nailed in along the edges

Decades old I'm not bothered about an exact replacement I just want any handle that fits the part, they seem embedded into the wood.

Screw at each side and sometimes one in the middle.
 
In the picture of this one it is more clear that the screw is inserted from inside the drawer, passing through a hole in the drawer front, with a threaded socket in the handle. This is common in modern kitchen and wardrobe drawers, and less likely for the screw to loosen in the wood

The other cup handles seem to fix in the same way but it is not so obvious from the pic.
