You don't have a Black.

In that case, you need to connect -

Blue to neutral and
Red to BOTH L AND SL.
Yellow still not used.

Or alter the other end of the cable so that the timer can be used.

I was concerned about linking L and SL.
That was my idea (to test in the workshop). Thought I'd ask first.

You say that there is nothing on the wires when the light is off.

The timer fan needs a permanent live and permanent neutral then a switched live to turn it on (where it starts timing after the switched live has been switched off).

So your wires are not connected at the other end of the cable correctly, do you know where the cable goes to?

AFAICT it is wrongly wired in the loft, I think I'm going to have to alter that end. Tks EFLImpedance.
