Cable colours?

Just a quick question. Why with the new harmonized colours, has a new split load Hager CU just been delivered with red and black flexible links?

because the old colours can still be used until next year

That's right, but surely Hager should be using the new colours by now. Presumably this now means that the installation now needs to be marked as

"This installation has wiring colours of two versions of BS7671................................................correctly identified"

even though harmonized cable her been used throught????????????????

Umm...

I have just taken delivery of two TP DB's, one for the off peak, and one for the peak supplies.

One is 8 TP ways, one is 4 TP ways. One is HARMONISED, one is NOT!!!

As this is a new install, I need all harmonised, but the wholesaler doesn't have the goods! What to do? does it really matter that the stickers are a different colour?? (Merlin Gerin would also have plastic coloured tags on the outgoing ways).

I dont know......

Give me RYB any day.....BBG doesn't have the ring to it!

The las MK boards I bought had a patch of stickers to Harmonise the older cables and board labels. Last Cheap& Cheery Denmans ones were fully Harmonised, suppose it depends on how fast they clear the old stock. Use tape and break out the box of crayons?

we should go back to the old colours. if europe want to use the same colours, they can change to RYB. at least you can easily see the diffence between the colours and if you see a bright coloured cable it obviously indicates danger

Yes, it should have a colour warning label.

Andrew - over the years, colours have changed more than people realise -white black and yellow have all been used for "phase" colours over the years.

Can anyone find the link to that thread from a while back detailing the colour changes?

8th edition colours allowed green for phase 3, and black for the cpc.

Between 7th and 8th edition, the neutral was green.

While from 7th - 14th, the cpc was black, same as the neutral (from 8th-14th).

From the 8th to the 12th, Phase 3 was green!

7th- nearly 14th Phase two could be white.

But Phase one has always been red till H.

Here's another interesting fact: Green only sleeving not to be used after 1 April 1971. So if you want to date your install........

So stop complaining about colour changes!
