I want to batten on an existing ceiling and run cable for lighting in the void created before putting up new plasterboard. I am intending to use 25mm battens.

Are there any regs to stop me doing this if I protect the cable or do I need to put cable in conduit?

There are loads of regs, without looking it would be impossible to give a 100% answer, but it is very unlikely to need any extra protection likely just twin and earth, where problem lies is some one will need to inspect and test and fill in the paperwork, so the cable needs to satisfy that person, if your doing the paperwork then it's up to you, if LABC is doing it then up to them, and in all cases the person signing paper work has to be involved from start of the work not when it's finished.

Thanks
I will involve the 'competent person' who is signing off, from the beginning

Good idea, thanks again
