Hi

Does electric cable work the same way as all other products in life...you get what you pay for?

If so, what is/are the best brands?

Cheers

most cables sold in uk are ok theses days, years ago when the polish imports started there was some crap about. If in doubt look for Basec approved label, if it has this should be fine.

Do any of them use "properly coloured" insulation? The inner sleeving on older cables was made of red or black PVC, nowadays it's white PVC with a coloured coating.

I know it doesn't really matter, but it just gives an impression of C&N...

our house got rewired a few years ago, but there is still some old stranded 1mm t+e in what was the garage. the strands started breaking off when i replaced the switch in there. nasty stuff

I don't mean cable that old - there was a time when modern solid cored cable had inner sleeves that were made of coloured PVC.

in some ways a thin coloured layer is actually better because it makes any damage more visible.

Never thought about that.

But somehow I doubt that it was the reason the makers started doing it like that...
